What better way to enter the summer before high school than to have your first kiss? And by first kiss, I mean REAL kiss. The kind that you were certain would give you the unimaginable, but super intriguing cooties. The kind that taste like bubble gum, smell like pre-teen body odor and tickle from just budding mustache whiskers.
The summer before high school landed me in Ocean City, New Jersey, where I spent many vacations with my Jersey shore family tawwwking and canoodling about the best prosciutto for sandwiches and napoleons for coffee and dessert. My Italian, Puerto-Rican self fit right in there. Ocean City used to feel like my own family secret of summer fun. Somehow, each time I would develop a short lived east coast accent each time just in time to start school again.
I loved the Victorian houses, ice-cream on the boardwalk and late night trips into Atlantic so much that the first screen play I wrote in college had to take place there.
