Reporting live from Santa Barbara.
I have such a fantasy state of mind about places. A couple of weeks ago we visited Cape Cod, ate lobster, bought saltwater taffy and picked seashells. It’s what you do there.
This week, I’m in Santa Barbara loading my mind with everything technology to bring business to the next level, but not without taking breaks and walking along State Street, going for early morning runs and eating more delicious food.
And then tomorrow, my handsome Dutchman comes to meet me for a surprise weekend I have planned for him, not too far from SB.
Of course, I can’t reveal where or what it is because he will likely see this post and I hate it when a surprise is ruined!
Anyway, recent travels have me thinking… Something I usually think about when I’m in these really cool, historical, romantic places.
It’s… MAGIC.
Ever notice how a certain place can feel magical? This warm, exhilarating feeling of awesomeness paired with total bliss.
Is it the place or is it your perception of the place?
About a month ago, Mike was in one of our favorite places on the planet, Lake Como, Italy. He sent me amazing pictures throughout that day (night time for me) and let me feel as if I was there with him again. And then he said something.
He said, “Baby, this town is amazing. But, without you, it’s just a town, there’s no magic.”
I melted. Duh. #knowsjustwhattosay
So, I’ve been to lots of places in my 30 plus (heavy emphasis on the plus) years of life. I’ve lived in London, Paris, Scotland and I’ve traveled to many places on the other side of the world. I’ve seen the tourist towns across the states and I’ve been to the “I’ve never heard of that place” towns as well that look like the places you’ve seen in scary movies, where people disappear forever.
But places are just places. A house is just a house. A restaurant is just a restaurant. A beach is just a beach.
It’s who your with (even if it’s just you and hopefully you like you) that makes that place “magic”.
Perception and state of mind is everything.
So it brings me to this question: What are you doing today and who are you surrounding yourself with to create your magic?
