This is what my mother said a few nights ago in a conversation as we talked about the kids costumes and what they chose to be.
First she said, “I used to make ALL of your costumes!”
This is true. She made amazing costumes. It was the nature of the costumes that as I got older, made me wonder.
When I was 7, I was a French Maid.
When I was 8, I was a Geisha.
Her plea. “A Geisha is just a Japanese hostess who entertains men. Like with songs and dancing and tea!”
Okay.
And French Maid?
“It’s just a cute uniform for a housekeeper!”
As I went trick-or-treating with my Disney Princess and Rainbow Bright friends, I was THE ONLY child French Maid that year and THE ONLY child Geisha of the following year.
Don’t get me wrong, they were beautiful costumes and I felt….. so pretty. At 7 and 8, I actually WAS ignorant.
By the end of our conversation and the reveal to my mother that these costumes might have been a bit too suggestive… she said, “Oh well! I claim total ignorance!”
And thing is…. she really was (in an innocent way, of course).
What are you dressing your children as for Halloween?
Haha! I was a French Maid in 7th and 8th grade. I did not claim ignorance by then. I knew exactly what I was doing! Yikes!
