Sorry! No Mad Monday blog this week. I was in the middle of resetting my system!
There’s something about the river that takes you away and gives your brain the exact break it needs to come back to reality. It’s why we make every effort we can to get out on the water as much as possible.
Everyone has a laundry list of things they are responsible for. My case – kids, running a business while simultaneously starting another, housekeeping, laundry, shuttling, managing bills, keeping up with groceries and on and on. Every aspect presents a challenge at some point or another. Sometimes they are nicely spaced between and easy to fix. Sometimes, challenges from all aspects come at once. It’s just the nature of life.
Just as I need alone time, I need that time with the people I love to just escape, let go and be in the moment; to put all of those challenges on hold and remember real value. That’s what the river does to us. The moment we take off on the boat, there’s a calm that comes over and all that we have to be grateful for comes showering down and it’s beautiful. Smiles all around and sheer appreciation. It’s magical.
Resets are a must for everyone. Like sleep, a good cry or laugh, it shifts your perspective and shines the light on where you really need to put your attention.
Now, I could whine that I’m back to reality with a day and a half of solid work time before I’m off to a two day conference returning the night before hosting Mike’s big 40th birthday party the next day, but I won’t. Instead, I’ll be grateful that most everything is in check for the party; that I can delegate the rest; that I have work to be busy with; that I have been reset with a fresh mind to take it all on and that I’m now actually looking forward to it. (Of course, I may be singing a different tune on Friday…)
So, tell me…What resets you?
Oh,Summer, you were aptly named. Always bright, breezy, and a breath of fresh air. I don’t know how you do it, but I’m sure it’s all done well. Also, the poster killed me. Hilarious. No words in California screenings dates yet. Boo!
