I’ve just come back from two conferences. Last week I spent time with Inc. Magazine and the top 5000 businesses. The past two days at the Genius Network Annual Event, I spent time with futurists, visionaries and entrepreneurs that are in business for reasons other than making money. They are in the game because they have a mission to leave a footprint and change the world for the better.
Each meeting throughout the year and at the annual meetings where everyone in the network comes together, I am reminded of purpose and true success. Most of all I am reminded of what’s possible.
As Tony Robbins said at this event, Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion.
When you have friends like Peter Diamandis and Tony Robbins, who constantly defy what is thought to be impossible, you can’t help but realize the excuses you make to not make a goal happen. You realize that the excuses are all about you, not about what you are blaming. It’s always about us. Anxiety, depression, hopelessness… it’s about us. The moment you look to someone else and ask how you can help them and even bigger… how can I solve a problem by giving of myself – everything changes. It’s not about you anymore.
I’ve heard all the excuses and some yes, appear very valid and make the challenge even harder. But, is it reason enough to stop? Is it reason enough to stay stuck?
Tony says that you can only be depressed when it’s about you. There are people who thrive on the drama in their lives because it serves as a terrific excuse to stay stuck and not have to achieve anything.
I see story after story of those who have created multi-billion dollar businesses in the face of poverty, illness, abandonment and fear. They saw excuses as an easy way out they didn’t want to take and welcomed the challenge of success with bravery and courage. They took impossible and made it possible.
The human experience is never without emotion. Anxiety, depression, fear, anger, shame… we will all feel it. And we all have the ability to turn those emotions with a simple act of doing something for someone else. That’s it.
From that place … look at what you thought was impossible and make it possible.
So true! Great blog post!
